A relatively clean self storage unit will allow you to store your fabric items in boxes for good air circulation.

Self Storage SelinsgroveSelinsgrove Self Storage – Ideal Self Storage: When you decide to use self storage, whatever the reason, you will be paying for it. Although it is usually a very reasonable and fair amount, you can do some things to get the most from your rental unit.

Place everything in boxes. Leave nothing out exposed to the air. Self storage units can be dusty and you’ll be surprised how dirty your items will become if they stay in there for a few months or longer. When you box things up, try your best to store them in a somewhat organized manner. Put tools in one box, knick knacks in another, and kitchen utensils in another box. Avoid putting mismatched things together as you will have a difficult time trying to find something if you need it later.

Label all of the boxes well. Be as detailed as practical in marking the contents. When you store clothing, for example, you can place all of the children’s summer clothing in one box. Mark it with the sizes and what season they are for. If you have two boys size 6 and 8, mark the box ‘summer boys size 6 and 8’ to make it easy for you to find when summer comes around. You’ll appreciate not having to dig through 17 boxes of everybody’s clothes just to find the boys’ swimming trunks for a rare winter trip to the indoor pool in January.

When you mark the boxes, place them in the storage unit with the label turned outward so you can see the number or the identification.

If you are super organized and have the time you can just number each box and create a more detailed inventory list on your laptop or manually written and kept where you can find it easily. When you mark the boxes, place them in the storage unit with the label turned outward so you can see the number or the identification.

Packing books to lie flat in their boxes is a good way to avoid damage. Stored upright, their spines can become twisted or damaged. Books and other heavy items should never be stored in large boxes. Save those large containers for clothing and other lighter items. Heavy things should have small manageable boxes. The same should be said about delicate and fragile items. The less awkward the box, the less likely you will be to end up dropping it.

If you will be storing in a humid environment beware of mold. A relatively clean self storage unit will allow you to store your fabric items in boxes for good air circulation. Plastic containers and bags could tend to cause mold and mildew to grow.
