Putting Your Home Items in Self Storage

Use shrink wrap or packing tape to go around large items like skis or several tomato stakes for the garden you’ll plant someday.

Liverpool PA Self Storage – Ideal Self Storage: Packing up your house and preparing it to be put into storage can be a very big challenge. It’s a unique situation as you would ordinarily pack up your household and move it into another home directly. Putting all or most of your home in a transitional storage facility will take some creative and clever planning.

Your plan should include the packing up and storing of items that you do not need on a regular basis. Therefore, plan to pack up those items that you can do without to go into the storage unit. Move from room to room, literally, using a list that you create. Your list should include all of those items that need to be left behind for you to use in transition. One suggestion might be to use a separate sheet of paper for each room, taped to the back of the door. On that sheet of paper you will have listed all of the things that do not go into packing boxes for now. That way anyone who is helping you to move won’t accidentally pack something your family will need to use .

“Mark your boxes well on top and on two sides. Include a detailed list of items if necessary.”

The rest of the items can be packed into boxes, using good, sturdy box material. The packing of delicate and breakable items can be cushioned by wrapping them in towels, sheets, table linens, and even off season clothing. This eliminates the need for you to rent a larger space for those items, and saves you money on bubble wrap or other expensive padding material. Mark your boxes well on top and on two sides. Include a detailed list of items if necessary. If the box contains all of your CD’s, though, just mark it as such. No need to itemize the obvious. Use smaller boxes for delicate breakables as they will be more easily carried without worry that they will be dropped. Books should also be packed in smaller boxes because of their weight.

Use shrink wrap or packing tape to go around large items like skis or several tomato stakes for the garden you’ll plant someday. Shrink wrap and packing tape can also come in handy to keep bed rails together with the rest of the bed frames. Tape a plastic sandwich bag to the bed frame containing the hardware that goes with the bed.Consolidate all that you can to save space. Don’t take items you don’t need any longer as you will be paying for storage of excess items that you may end up tossing out or giving away in the future.
